Yen Thang develops freeze-dried pennywort powder products that meet OCOP standards

Pennywort has been expanded in production area by people of Yen Thang commune, Yen Mo district in a concentrated and commodity direction since 2020. Compared to traditional crops, it has shown to be much more effective and is currently being developed by the locality into a key crop, associated with post-harvest processing.

Currently, the area of ​​​​Pennywort production in Yen Thang commune is nearly 8 hectares with more than 100 households participating in production. Compared to vegetables, the efficiency is quite high, bringing in an income of about 500 million VND/ha/year. However, at the peak of the harvest, it is inevitable that there will be a "good harvest, low price" situation. Therefore, at the end of 2022, with the support and guidance of the Provincial Cooperative Union, Van Tra Agricultural Cooperative invested in a factory and technology to produce cold-dried Pennywort powder products according to a closed process. Not only taking advantage of safe, on-site raw material areas, but also increasing the value and efficiency of production.

The processed freeze-dried pennywort powder product is about 10 times more effective than the raw one. Therefore, compliance with the safe, organic production process, following the value chain that Yen Thang is implementing will gradually affirm the product brand in the market, and is also an important premise for the commune to build products that meet OCOP standards.
